What Is The World Zionist Congress?
In 1897, Theodor Herzl convened
about 200 Jewish leaders from around the world in Basel, Switzerland to
discuss the condition of the Jewish
People, The delegates at the meeting, or Congress, decided to
create a movement whose goal it was to establish a Jewish Homeland. The World Zionist Organization was
born. Since that time, the World
Zionist Congress has met 33 times to resolve critical issues
facing the Jewish people,
from building Israel's infrastructure
to the establishment of the State, from
the aliyah following the
Holocaust to the aliyah of
today. The 35th World Zionist Congress
meeting in Jerusalem June
2006, will set an agenda that is certain to affect Israeli society and Israel-Diaspora relations for years
to come.

Dear
Friends,
On behalf of American Friends of Likud,
we would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your family a Shanah Tovah. May the coming year be
full of happiness and health.
As we reflect on this past year, our branches in Los Angeles, South Florida and NY have been very active in a most
contentious time for Israel. The battle for the hearts and minds of our
brethren, in the United States and elsewhere, still remains in the
balance. Only a strong Likud
in the US can help assure that the Likud
ideology remains true.
In addition to our continuous events highlighting Israeli Ministers and MK's in Jewish communities throughout
the United States, American Friends of
Likud continues to advance its various hasbara initiatives on
the High School, College, and Young Professional levels.
Now, more than ever, a strong Likud
in the United States is essential. Your help and activism has allowed us
to fulfill the needs of the Jewish community in the United States, and
work towards a strong Likud in
Israel.
Shana Tova,
Ari Harow
National Executive Director

Caravan for Democracy
High School Edition has already hosted three programs this year. Our year
kick-off event was in Chicago
with Gil Hoffman, political
analyst for the Jerusalem Post.
This was the first of 5 events planned for the Chicago area throughout
this year. Ground-breaking events are already being planned for Chicago,
including bringing our program into the public high schools, and
co-sponsoring weekend shabbatons with local youth movements.
Gil then traveled with us to Miami
Beach, to kick off our South
Florida programming, sponsored by National Grants Conferences.
We had over 150 students
from the Hillel Community High School and
RAGS Hebrew Academy take
part in a full morning of advocacy training. Most recently we provided
the keynote speaker, Lenny Ben David
of Iconsult, Inc. for a teen Israel advocacy seminar hosted by the JCRC of Northern New Jersey.
Programming will continue after the holidays in Phoenix, Los Angeles, Boston,
Boca Raton, and New York. On November 10, we are
bringing the program back to New York City for the first time since our
pilot event in January 2004. The event will feature a keynote session
with Ron Dermer,
Israel’s Ambassador for Economic Affairs to the United States, and
will be followed by various break- out sessions on Israel advocacy, media- bias, and campus activism. For more information
please contact Michelle at MBeller@thelikud.org or 212-308- 5595. You can visit us on

§ Our Young

showcasing the injustices at the UN that ultimately have a negative
effect on both Israel and the prospects for peace in the Middle East. The
film was followed by a discussion with producer Lisa Magnas.
§ On Wednesday, November 9 we will be having an event with Ron Dermer, Israel’s economic
attaché to Washington, DC, co-author of Natan Sharansky’s latest
book, The Case for Democracy, and who, himself, is a young professional.
§ The American Zionist elections
for the upcoming World Zionist Congress
are in full swing and our Young Professionals core-committee has been
working hard to register their friends, families, and fellow
“Likudniks” for the elections. We are confident that American Likud will have its
strongest showing yet!
§ One of the goals of the AFL Young
Professional group is to encourage leadership development in a
professional, social and educational atmosphere so as to foster a sense
of obligation and commitment amongst Jewish young professionals to the
State of Israel. For more information about involvement in the
core-committee please email rlanger@thelikud.org,
